Transparent Goby

Aphia minuta
Under review

The transparent goby is normally caught using small seines.

Fishing season opens in June and closes in August.

In Andalusia, they are called chanquetes and are traditionally served deep-fried, with fried eggs and roasted or fried pepper. Similarly, in Malta it is used to make pulpetti tal-makku.

They spawn in summer in empty bivalve shells and the adults (which can reach a maximum size of no more than 8 cm) die after breeding.
