The transparent goby is normally caught using small seines.
Fishing season opens in June and closes in August.
In Andalusia, they are called chanquetes and are traditionally served deep-fried, with fried eggs and roasted or fried pepper. Similarly, in Malta it is used to make pulpetti tal-makku.
They spawn in summer in empty bivalve shells and the adults (which can reach a maximum size of no more than 8 cm) die after breeding.
