Atlantic Bonito

Sarda sarda

The Atlantic Bonito is caught using gill nets, trammel nets or trolling lines.

In most parts of the Mediterranean, it spawns between May and July. Present all year round, the best fishing period is when the bonitos approach the coast, during spring and summer.

The Atlantic bonito is an aggressive predator and is known to skip or leap on surface waters when in pursuit of prey.

Our suggestion

This species is very widespread, abundant in many areas it inhabits and very fast growing. It has been targeted in both commercial and recreational fisheries for a long time but has shown no evident population declines. fish for tomorrow recommends the Atlantic bonito.
