Caught

In Malta, Amberjack are caught using trolling lines, gill nets and trammel nets.

Availability

It is usually available during the summer months.

Facts

Amberjacks are carnivorous and mainly feed on squid, crustaceans and smaller fish: in fact these are used as bait.

Our suggestion

Amberjack and Greater Amberjack is moderately affected by fishing pressures, however there is limited data on the fish available. fish for tomorrow recommends consumers to Eat in Moderation based on the lack of data available and its moderate susceptibility to being affected by fishing pressures.

It is also worth noting that aquaculture operations have recently begun in Malta and this fish will soon be farmed commercially.
